The new curriculum will be the first time the Science program has been updated since 1998, according to school officials. The curriculum will immerse students in grades 3-5 in the nature of science and inquiry, allow them to think like scientists and engineers, and help them achieve scientific literacy through real-world examples. With the BankFive donation, students will not only meet but exceed state science standards.
"It's important for our public schools to be properly equipped to maintain the educational standards expected of them," said William R. Eccles Jr., President and CEO of BankFive. "That's why we are committed to assisting Fall River Public Schools in achieving its goals, so that every student has an opportunity to succeed in the classroom."
"With the help of BankFive, for the first time in over 15 years, the Fall River Public Schools is now able to deliver a world class, hands-on engaging science experience for all of our students at the elementary school level. We know that through increased engagement and classroom rigor, we open the doors of opportunity for our young people, close achievement gaps, and excite inquiry through increased content connectivity," said Matthew H. Malone, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools.
"BankFive's contribution is not just an investment in materials- it's an investment in our human capital. They are letting our educators know that they believe in the work they are doing, and that they understand the importance of complementing great teaching with quality educational resources," said Tracy Curley, Ed.D, Director of Mathematics & Science. "The end result of course is the positive impact this curriculum will have on our young learners."
